Back to basics by the lake. The cabin has no electricity and no running water. Light comes from candles and oil lamps, drinking water is drawn with a crank and bucket from a covered well on the property, and the toilet is an outhouse with a lake view. Perfect if you want nature, silence and a wood-fired sauna – not if you are looking for city comforts.
A beautifully located cabin with a large beachfront plot on Lake Nissången, in a forested area 15 km from Malung. Swim straight from the property, row out to fish, and end the day in the wood-fired sauna at the water’s edge.
The cabin
The main room has a genuine masonry fireplace and a dining table by a large window overlooking the lake. At the back of the room is a double bed. The bedroom has two bunk beds in traditional Dalarna style with four beds in total (4 × 80 cm), and the boathouse has a small bedroom (6 m²) with two single beds (2 × 80 cm).
The kitchen has no running water but is equipped with a wood stove, a gas cooker and oven, and a gas fridge. The spacious sun deck with dining table faces south and west, with a breathtaking view over the lake.
By the lake
You can swim straight from the property and from a long, child-friendly sandy beach next to it. Further up the bay is a public beach – one of the best in the region. There is one neighbour in between, and on warm sunny days local families may come to swim. The total silence is then broken for a few hours.
A log building at the water’s edge houses a wood-fired sauna, a simple camping shower and a relaxation room with a stunning view over the lake. Outside is a two-level sun deck with a bathing jetty.
The boathouse holds the woodshed, two bicycles, the rowing boat and life jackets for adults and children: buoyancy vests 1 × 15–30 kg, 2 × 20–30 kg and 1 × 40–60 kg, and sailing vests 1 × 50–60 kg, 2 × 60–70 kg and 1 × 70–80 kg.
Good fishing
Lake Nissången offers good fishing for perch and pike. The area also has many lakes, rivers and ponds with grayling, trout and in some places rainbow trout. In most waters you may fish with any method: fly rod, spinning rod or a classic rod with a float.
The lake drains into the river Sångån, which flows on to the Västerdalälven – the heart of the whole area, with fantastic river fishing for grayling and trout. The waters are easy to reach via the forest roads that cross the countryside and woods.
Good to know
- Available May–September, weekly (Saturday–Saturday).
- In mid and high season (late June, July and August) the cabin is normally rented for at least two weeks.
- Always included: firewood, gas, rowing boat and two bicycles.
- Optional: bed linen (sheets and pillowcases), towels and final cleaning.
- The nearest WiFi is in Malung, 15 km away (the library and ICA).
- Rented to families and adults (25+).
